Silver Brazing Alloys Without Cadmium

This group of alloys are according to the new environmental rules and substitute former group of alloys with cadmium. Alloys particularly suitable for low temperature brazing of all kinds of materials, such as copper/stainless steel/steel, nickels and other materials. This type of brazing joints allows the obtainment of high mechanical strength, ductility and plasticity. They are indeed the future of brazing procedures, according to new environmental legislation.

Copper Phosphor Alloys

Soutil alloys are Copper based filler metals that are self-fluxing on copper by virtue of their phosphorous content. Because of their self-fluxing nature, you save time and money by eliminating the steps necessary to flux a joint before brazing. However, copper alloys such as brass and bronze should be fluxed with or Soutil-Flux to assure a sound braze joint.

While this filler metal is widely used in the air conditioning and plumbing industries, it is not recommended for ferrous or nickel based materials because the joint will become brittle and may fail. The copper phosphor alloys vary in silver content from 18% to 2% and the percentage of silver and phosphorous does change the melt and flow characteristics of the filler metal. All alloys are available in wire & rod, powder & paste, preformed rings and shapes. Some alloys are available in strip as well.

Copper - Brass Alloys

In this group we can consider that there are two types of alloys:
An alloys group with Cu + Zn especially suited for hard-soldering of brass and ferrous alloys, with the particularity of conferring on brass the same color as the base material..
An alloys group with Ni + Cu + Zn with high mechanical strength characteristics and particularly suitable for highly stressed steel solder.
